About This Candle

It's so easy to look at the big picture and either feel discouraged or, worse, shrink in despair and do nothing. No matter how big, daunting or seemingly impossible our dreams and goals for our lives and the world are, there are two truths:

1. We are not God, and we need to stop trying to be.

2. We can do something today, no matter how seemingly small.

In my experience nothing counteracts fear and/or hopelessness than good old fashioned action. But when the action feels too big or too scary or simply too overwhelming, let this candle encourage you to take a baby step. Just a little one. Make one phone call. Donate $5. Walk six blocks. Clean one drawer. Say no to something easy. Then rest. We aren't superwomen (or supermen). We aren't meant to be! Be gentle with yourself, and if and when it's time for bigger leaps, you'll summon the courage at that time. Don't let what might happen in the future stop you from doing the right thing today. Baby steps . . . teeny tiny baby steps.
